Don't Get A New Computer, Get A RAM Upgrade

Is Your Computer Running Slow?

If you computer is only 6 year old or less and running slow, chances are that it just needs a RAM upgrade. Computer companies used to send their computers out with the minimum amount of RAM they could (256 to 512 Megabytes), which was OK 4 to 6 years ago but not any more. With all the new Windows Updates, anti-virus programs, and anti-spyware programs your computer needs about 1 Gig of RAM or more now days for Windows XP.

How Do I Know What RAM I Need?

This is where Crucial.com comes in. Crucial.com's website has a RAM Scanner Tool that can just click on and run. When the scanner is done, it will show you a couple of things.

  • What type of RAM your computer has.
  • How many RAM slots you have.
  • How much RAM you have total, and in each slot.
  • Maximum RAM your computer can take.
  • Suggested RAM packages you can buy.

Where To Buy My RAM

I've checked prices in stores, other websites, and on Crucial.com and Crucial.com has always met the best price I could find, if not cheaper. They also guarantee that the RAM suggested by the RAM Scanning Tool will be compatible with your computer. Installing internet at people's houses, I have suggested Crucial.com to many customers who's computers are running slow and they have all been satisfied with there service and price, I couldn't recommend a better place than them.

Installing The RAM

  1. Shut down and unplug your computer.
  2. Open the computer case so you can see inside.
  3. Find the RAM that is currently installed on your computer, it will look similar to the RAM you bought.
  4. Insert the RAM into an empty slot, or if there are no empty slots take out one of the smaller RAM chips and replace it with the new RAM.
    • Use the clips on the sides of the RAM slot to release or clamp-in the RAM.
  5. Close the computer case.
  6. Plug in the computer and turn it on.
  7. Windows should recognize the RAM on its own.

If doing these steps is intimidating or hard to understand for you, ask someone you know that is familiar with computers to help or do it for you. It should only take 10 to 15 minutes to do.
